West Chester U.S. Route 42 Road Widening

The U.S. Route 42 (Cincinnati-Columbus Road) road widening project includes the widening of U.S. Route 42 to three lanes to provide a through land in each direction and a middle two-way left-turn lane from U.S. Route 42 from Fields-Ertel Road north to Butler-Warren Road. Specifically, just north of Windwood Drive to just south of Butler-Warren Road. This widening is for areas where there is currently no turn lane. The project also includes the left turn lanes on both approaches of Dimmick Road, which is designed to provide safer roadway conditions for the traveling public. Project is scheduled to begin Spring 2011 with completion slated for Fall 2012.

Project Investment: $3.1 million

Butler County MetroParks and Southwest Ohio Economic Development

This week featured a meeting with Jon Granville of the Butler County MetroParks System. MetroParks manages an extensive network of parks in Butler County including the VOA Park in West Chester. Intermodal and multimodal bike trail connectivity for economic development was discussed.

Also this week the SW Ohio Regional Economic Development Advisory Forum met to provide an update on State and Federal programs for business development.

City of Hamilton Provides Economic Development Update

The City of Hamilton Economic Development Department provided an overview of expansion projects including Sensus Flavors and Vinylmax. Investment will be in the $2,000,000 range. The City has been working on the Greenwood Fuels Project with the Butler County Port Authority. A $5,000,000 Recovery Zone Facility Bond allocation was authorized at the last BCPA Board Meeting.

Five Year Progress Report Provided by BCPA Chairman Slagle

During the early years of the Butler County Port Authority there were many management and project development challenges. MRH Deconstruction, Greater Miami Valley YMCA and the Quaker Chemical Industrial Development Bond are projects that have been completed in 2008 and 2009. The electric switch lock system for rail with three firms in the Hamilton and Fairfield area was completed in 2007. A Ohio Rail Development Commission Grant and a grant from Cinergy were part of the project. Also the Intermodal Rail Study was finished in 2007 and can assist in Intermodal and Multimodal rail projects.

Officers were elected for 2010 included: Joe Magdich as Chairman, Jim Fitton as Vice-Chairman and Mike Campbell as Secretary. Mr. Slagle will remain on the Board. Board Members thanked him for his leadership and direction during the past five years.

Recovery Zone Facility Bond Applications

Recovery Zone Facility Bonds may have another round for RFPs. This will be determined at the next BCPA Board Meeting on December 15th.

Recovery Zone Bonds Requests for Proposal

Mike Campbell attended the Butler County Chambers of Commerce Caucus to provide an overview of the Recovery Zone Bonds Request for Proposals. Any private activity project should consider utilizing the Recovery Zone Bonds.

The BCPA was recognized at the Development Finance Advisory Council (DFAC) on October 26th in Columbus by the Ohio Dept. of Development. The loan and lease arrangement will be more than $8,000,000.

The Chamber of Middletown, Trenton and Monroe sponsored an international trade symposium at the Manchester, Inn on October 2nd. Indonesia was the featured nation. The 3rd largest democracy in the world boast 240 million people and a growing economy despite the worldwide recession.

Freight and the Butler County Port Authority

The BCPA's Intermodal Rail Study in 2007 was a key factor in recognizing the importance of freight in Butler County and the Southwest Ohio Region. BCPA has worked with the Ohio Rail Development Commission and ODOT on freight transportation programs and issues.

Quaker Chemical to Update on Project at August BCPA Board Meeting

Quaker Chemical was a project that got underway in 2008 and will be completed in 2009. An update on the expansion will be provided by a QC representative.
